Overview
The Certificate in Law and Philosophy offers students the opportunity to explore key features of legal reasoning and the philosophy of law, and to connect these to broader themes in social and political theory. The certificate will provide students with intellectual skills—critical reading, identifying and developing arguments, written and oral communication—necessary for the study of law, and will acquaint students with foundational philosophical concepts operative in the law and legal institutions such as intent, rights, liberty, equality, and responsibility.
Why Study Law and Philosophy?
Completing the Certificate in Law and Philosophy will help students develop communication, critical thinking, and analysis skills that prepare them for a future as an attorney, analyst, consultant, or manager. Students will develop skills in critical reading, critical writing, and speaking. They will learn to develop strong arguments and to analyze the arguments put forward by others. Completing the certificate will help them become informed and critical citizens.
